Which resort for whom
Below Chopok South you do not have to drive up to Krupová every day. A few minutes from Bystrá there are two smaller resorts where skiing is cheaper, queues are shorter and parking is free:
- Ski Tále is a small family resort in the Bystrá valley. Short tows, easy-to-read pistes and two children’s tows. It suits the first days on skis and children who are still learning to stop.
- Mýto Ski & Bike by Mýto pod Ďumbierom has longer pistes, a chairlift and night skiing on both main pistes. It is for those who can already make turns and want to ski after dark too.
Chopok is worth visiting in clear weather and for a whole day. When it is windy on the ridge, foggy or you are learning with children, Tále and Mýto are the more sensible choice. For Chopok ski pass prices and rules see the article Chopok South ski passes.
Ski Tále: a small resort for first turns
Ski Tále lies at 660 to 870 m on a north-facing slope which, according to the resort, creates good conditions for skiing and snowboarding. The pistes total 2.77 km and snowmaking covers all of them. According to the resort they suit beginners, recreational skiers and advanced skiers.
The tows according to the operating rules for winter 2025/26:
- two rope tows, Tatrapoma H 130 (900 m) and H 100 (750 m),
- two tows, TLV A and TLV C, each 400 m,
- two children’s tows of 200 m each.
Together they carry 4,110 people an hour. There is no chairlift in Tále. Skiing runs daily from 9:00 to 16:00, and according to the 2025/26 operating rules night skiing was on Friday from 18:00 to 21:00 on the TLV A, TLV C and H 100 tows.
On site there is a rental shop for skis, snowboards, ski touring sets and children’s sledges, a service shop and the Berg ski school. You can sledge on the lower part of the slope, to the left of the children’s tow. For food there is the Stodola restaurant, open daily from 8:00 to 16:00, and at weekends the Gray Bear restaurant too.
Ski Tále opens the season according to the snow; the resort tries to start after Christmas, around 25 December. Ski touring is banned across the whole resort.
Mýto Ski & Bike: longer pistes and a chairlift
The resort stands at the edge of the village of Mýto pod Ďumbierom, on the road from Bystrá towards Brezno and Čertovica. It has 4.6 km of pistes with a 300 m vertical drop. The heart of it is two medium-difficulty pistes 1,460 m and 1,640 m long, plus a shorter upper piste, an easy beginners’ and children’s piste. Since 2021 the slope has been levelled and the steep end of the hill has gone.
A four-seat chairlift (1,420 m, 2,200 people an hour) and four tows take you up. For beginners there is a moving belt and a gentle piste with a tow. Skiing runs daily from 9:00 to 16:00, and at weekends in winter 2025/26 there was also First Snow from 8:00 to 9:00 for those who want a freshly groomed piste first.
Below the slope there is a restaurant with a sunny terrace and an Apres-ski bar, a rental shop, a service shop and a ski storage room. The resort closed the 2025/26 winter season on 22 March 2026 and plans to open winter 2026/27 on 19 December 2026.
Night skiing
Night skiing is the main reason to go to Mýto. In winter 2025/26 both long pistes were lit, 3.1 km in total, and a floodlit chairlift ran. Skiing ran from Wednesday to Saturday from 18:00 to 21:00, and every day during the spring school holidays from 11 to 21 February 2026. Before night skiing the resort regrooms the pistes. A separate evening ticket applies, bought for a specific day.
In Tále you ski in the evening on three tows, on Friday according to the 2025/26 operating rules. An evening adult ski pass cost €21 over Christmas.
For guests in Bystrá it is practical: Chopok, Bystrianska Cave or wellness during the day, and in the evening two to three hours on the slope a few minutes from the apartment. If you arrive from Wednesday to Saturday, you can fit in Mýto on the day of arrival, as check-in is from 15:00.
Children and beginners
The Berg ski school teaches at both Tále and Mýto. In Mýto, according to the resort, there is individual skiing tuition for children from 4 years and snowboarding from 7 years, and group lessons from 7 years. One lesson for one person cost €38 in winter 2025/26, for two €60. The price includes instruction on the moving belt in the school’s area, but not the ski pass.
Mýto has a children’s play room in the restaurant below the slope, open at weekends and during holidays. While one parent skis, the children can play under the supervision of an animator.
In Tále, children up to 5 (inclusive) get a ski pass for €3 if they ski with an adult’s ski pass. For beginners there are two children’s tows of 200 m. You will find more tips for children by age in the article Chopok South with kids.
